Course Syllabus
First 15 minutes of The Gods Must Be Crazy.
Course Overview - The purpose of the course is to explore ways of thinking about technology and media in relation to society and pedagogy. We will develop ways of seeing technology in its ‘essence’ and how to question our adoption and adaptation of it as it relates to education - in policy and in practice. We will examine philosophies of technology and education through course readings (and watchings and listenings), class discussions and student presentations and critiques.
We will come at the ideas from a number of perspectives:
- philosophers
- brain researchers
- the influence of language
- psycho-social researchers

Marshall McLuhan - Wikipedia summary
“… the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium – that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale that is introduced onto our affairs any each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.” P. 7
